The walk includes a pleasant stretch along the River Trent, sections of the Nottingham Canal and passes a number of museums, (Castle; Brewhouse yard; Canal; lace; textile and costume; and the galleries of justice).  The walk passes many fine old buildings and good examples of new architecture ( e.g.. The magistrates courts) and there are a large number of pubs and cafes en route for the visitor to sample the hospitality for which Nottingham is famous.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION

Exit Station and cross road.  Turn left along Carrington Street and follow into Sheriff's Way (Queen's Hotel on corner). At traffic lights cross Waterway Street West then Meadow's Way and continue straight ahead along Queen's Walk (signposted Wilford/Clifton for cyclists and park on right). Pass Pilgrim Holiness Church on left.

Go under road bridge and continue ahead to traffic island.  Turn left through gates onto Victoria Embankment.  Cross road to riverside and continue along riverbank to Suspension Bridge.  Cross bridge and continue in same direction bet on other side of river.  Pass County Hall and go under Trent Bridge, to reach Notts. Forest F.C ground.

Q2.    What is the name of Diner?

Continue along river over Canal Bridge and then just before next bridge go up steps to road.  Turn left over Lady Bay Bridge and continue to traffic lights.  Turn left and continue ahead (ignore bend in road).  After passing Notts. County's ground on right take first road on right passing Trent Navigation pub.  Where road turns right ignore this and carry straight on through gate (to left of stone bridge) and descent to Canal.  Turn right along towpath.  After passing under four more bridges go up slope to right, cross bridge and exit to London Road.  Turn right passing viewing platform.

Q3.    On what former site is the viewing platform located?

Continue to large traffic island.  Head diagonally left across two roads and island to left of Shell petrol station.  Turn right passing the front of the petrol station and follow road round to left uphill.  Take second left (Hollowstone).  At the top of hill continue straight on into High Pavement passing Church on right.

Q4.    What is the name of the Church?

Carry on along High Pavement passing the Galleries of Justice and Lace Hall.  At the junction with Weekday Cross (by statue) turn right.  Continue ahead as this becomes Fletcher Gate.  At the top of the road turn left down Victoria Street.  As the road swings left continue ahead down Cheapside passing the Council House on right hand side.  At the end of the building (Housing Advice Centre) turn right passing the front of the Council House and then go up King Street (directly opposite).  Take left fork in road (Queen Street) and go to end.  Cross road at pedestrian lights towards Turf Tavern pub.  Turn left then immediately right at pub to pass the front of the Royal Concert Hall.  Cross over road at pedestrian lights and go straight on down South Sherwood Street.  At the traffic lights at the bottom of the hill turn left; just after the Arkwright building (by Zebra crossing) turn left up steps and passageway to road (Question at top of passage).

Q5.    What is the name of the passageway?

At road turn left and go to traffic lights: cross road and continue straight ahead.  Cross two more roads at pedestrian lights and carry straight on down Market Street to Market Square.  Continue straight ahead down Wheeler Gate (no sign - Bradford & Bingley on corner).  At road junction bear right down pedestrianised area (Marks & Spencer on left) and then turn first right up Castle Gate.  Towards the top of the road turn right (Royal Children pub on corner) into St. Nicholas Street and then felt again up passageway just after Ye Olde Salutation Inn.

Q6.    What date is written on the side of the Inn?

At road turn left and then cross road at pedestrian lights.  Continue ahead up Castle Gate passing Costume & Textile Museum on left.  At the end of Castle Gate pause!  (The entrance to the Castle is on the right if you wish to visit and the statue of Robin Hood just in front).  Turn left down hill passing Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem Inn on right .

Q7.    What is the date on this Inn?

After passing Brewhouse Museum on right continue to bottom of road and turn left to traffic lights.  Cross road (Castle Boulevard) and continue straight ahead along Wilford Street (Job Centre on corner).  Go over Canal bridge and turn right onto towpath.  Turn right again under bridge you have just walked over and continue along towpath over bridge (Magistrates Courts on right; Canal Museum on left).  Just after bridge turn right and then immediately left up slope back to Carrington Street and the Station.
