ROUTE DESCRIPTION
Those starting from Lime Street Station head out of the main entrance and turn left onto Lime street and follow the instructions from (B)
From the Beatles Story turn towards the River Mersey, then right along the front of the dock by the river. Turn right at the end, signed Maritime Museum.
Q1. What is the birth name of the statue on the right?
Pass the museum and exit the docks, turning left on main road, then left again at the major junction into Mann Island.
Turn right along Pierhead and at the end of the buildings turn right again to reach the front of the Royal Liver Building (Opened in 1911, the clock faces are 25 ft in diameter and are the largest striking clocks in Britain, above these are the mythical Liver birds standing 18ft high) at George’s Dock Gates, cross the busy road at the Pelican crossing, turn right and first left into Water Street. Continue up past the India Buildings on the right and the Town Hall (Built between 1749 & 1754, the sculptures around the exterior represent the countries with which Liverpool traded) on the left. As the road becomes Dale Street, cross by the pelican crossing and turn right into North John Street, go past traffic lights and then take first left into Mathew Street - SP. Cavern Walks (Shortly before reaching the Cavern Club, the Cavern Wall of Fame can be seen on the left, this lists all the famous artists who have appeared at the Cavern Club. The original Cavern Club was demolished in 1973 to make way for the underground railway. In the early 1980’s the site was excavated, exposing the famous archways and it was rebuilt on over 75% of it’s original site with many of it’s original bricks. It re-opened in 1984 and was re-established as a live music venue in the 1990’s. High on the wall opposite the Cavern Club is the controversial statue by Arthur Dooley, erected in 1974. It was the first to symbolise the relationship between the Beatles, Liverpool and the rest of the world).

Turn second right into Rainsford Gardens (not Rainsford Square) with White Star PH (a typical old style Liverpool pub which was a Beatles watering hole) on right, then left at Button Street and left again into Whitechapel. Almost immediately after turn left up Stanley Street to see the Eleanor Rigby statue on the right.
Retrace your steps to Whitechapel, turn left, cross the street and continue to the end well beyond the shops, crossing Crosshall Street along the way. Bear left around the top of the major junction and turn right into William Brown Street, walking up hill past the Liverpool Museum, Central Library and the Walker Art Gallery. Cross the road with care at the top and turn right down Lime Street and past the Empire Theatre and Railway Station.
(B) After passing the station, keep forward to reach the Crown PH, turn right and cross the road with care and go down Elliot Street, with St John’s Shopping Precinct to your right and continue to the bottom of the pedestrian area. At the corner with Church Street, turn left and go forward crossing Hanover/Ranelagh Street to enter Bold Street. Go all the way to the top of Bold Street. Turn right into Berry Street, left into Upper Duke Street (As you turn into upper duke street notice the entrance to china town on your right) and up to pass the impressive Anglican Cathedral (The Anglican Cathedral built of local sandstone, is the world’s largest Anglican Cathedral with the highest Gothic arches and vaults ever built. The tower is 331ft high and the cathedral has the highest and heaviest ringing peal of bells in the world).
Q4. Opposite the Anglican Cathedral is a red brick building with Mornington Terrace on it.

Turn left into Hope Street. Turn down into Mount Street, turn right at Pilgrim Street, right again into Rice Street ( Ye Cracke PH is another pub associated with early Beatle history. John & Cynthia Lennon passed many hours here as their romance blossomed) and then cross Hope Street into Falkner Street (No. 36 was the first home of John & Cynthia Lennon). Turn left onto Catharine Street, continue forward as it changes to Mulberry Street. Turn left down Oxford Street and keep on this road for a considerable distance as it changes to Mount Pleasant, (The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral cost £1.9 million and took 4½ years to build. It opened in 1967 and can accommodate 2,200 worshippers) heading towards Radio City tower to eventually reach the Adelphi Hotel.
Q5. What is the frequency of city FM?
Cross the road and turn left into Ranelagh Street. Continue in this direction as it joins Hanover Street. Keep forward crossing Paradise Street to eventually reach the main road. Cross at the Pelican Crossing and return to Albert Dock.
