Hadrian's Wall Walk in Northumberland starts at Housteads Fort the wall built by Hadrian between 122-126 and was extended by Septimus Severus a century later, to fortify the northern boundary of Roman Britain. It stretched 120 kilometres (75 miles) from Wallsend on the River Tyne to Bowness at the head of the Solway Firth. Fragments of the wall and several stone mile stations remain. The weather can be quite windy etc, but on a clear day the views a wonderful.
